Summer is a season of light, warmth, and joy—a perfect time to reconnect with God, with others, and even with ourselves. Whether you're heading to the beach or staying close to home, there are so many ways to embrace this season with purpose.
Here are 12 simple, faith-centered ideas to help you enjoy summer with a Kingdom mindset:
1. Watch a Sunrise and Pray Over Your Day
Start your morning with beauty and stillness. Read Psalm 5:3 — “In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice…” Let creation remind you that every new day is a gift.
2. Host a Backyard Worship Night
Grab a speaker, some string lights, and gather a few friends or family. Play worship music, share testimonies, or just sit in His presence under the stars.
3. Have a Scripture Picnic
Take your Bible, a blanket, and a basket of snacks to a local park. Read aloud from Psalms or Proverbs and reflect in nature. Try Psalm 34:8 — “Taste and see that the Lord is good…”
4. Volunteer at a Local Outreach
Look for opportunities to serve during the summer—whether it’s passing out cold water downtown, helping with VBS, or visiting a senior center.
5. Go on a “Gratitude Walk”
Take a walk through your neighborhood or a trail, and instead of listening to music or a podcast, thank God out loud for everything you see.
6. Create a Summer Prayer Journal
Decorate a notebook just for summer prayers and answered prayers. Write in it each evening to keep your heart aligned and grateful.
7. Host a No-Tech Sunday with Family or Friends
Unplug for a day and just be present. Talk, eat, pray, play board games, and let your soul rest. Matthew 11:28 — “Come to me, all who are weary, and I will give you rest.”
8. Visit a Body of Water and Read John 4
Whether it’s a beach, river, or lake—reflect on the “Living Water” Jesus offers in John 4. Let the water remind you of the well that never runs dry.
9. Make a Fruit of the Spirit Summer Challenge
Pick one of the nine fruits from Galatians 5:22–23 to focus on each week (like joy or patience) and intentionally live it out.
10. Send a Scripture Postcard
Mail a handwritten postcard to someone with a verse that’s encouraging. In a world of DMs and emails, this simple gesture can mean so much.
11. Host a Movie Night with a Purpose
Choose a faith-based or inspiring film (like The Chosen or War Room) and invite people over for discussion afterward.
12. Have a Bonfire Testimony Night
End the season strong. Invite friends to share what God has done in their lives this summer around a fire. Encourage, pray, and celebrate together.
Summer is more than a break—it’s a chance to bloom in your faith, spread light, and carry joy wherever you go. So make room for fun, but make room for God too. He’s in every moment, big and small.
