Life has a funny way of taking you places you didn’t plan on going.
You make the lists, set the goals, pray about the steps, and then everything changes anyway.
A door closes. Something falls through. People drift. You start wondering if you missed something along the way.
What if you didn’t miss anything at all.
What if this is exactly how it’s supposed to look right now.
Sometimes the road that feels off track is the one God picked from the start. It just doesn’t look like the picture you had in your head.
I’ve learned that when things stop working the way I thought they would, it’s not always a bad sign. It might be a gentle way of being told to slow down. Or to turn. Or to let go of what I’m forcing.
“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” Proverbs 16:9
That verse keeps me steady when everything around me changes. It reminds me that I can plan all I want, but God’s direction still wins, and it’s usually better than mine.
3 lessons from life detours
1. A delay isn’t always bad news
Maybe what you want isn’t ready yet. Maybe you’re still being shaped for it. The timing isn’t broken, it’s just building something stronger.
2. You can’t steer everything
At some point you have to take your hands off the wheel and trust that God knows the turns. You don’t have to fix every wrong road. You don’t have to know how it ends.
3. The long way can still be the right way
We all rush. But sometimes the slower route is the one that gives you the wisdom to handle what’s next. You’ll understand later why it couldn’t happen faster.
If your plans are changing, breathe.
You’re not lost. You’re being led somewhere new.
Maybe the thing that feels like a detour isn’t blocking your way.
Maybe it is the way.
