Inspired by Matthew 25:1–13
In a life that keeps pulling at our time, our energy, and our attention, staying spiritually ready isn’t just wise, it’s essential. That viral phrase, “stay ready so you don’t have to get ready,” may come from the culture, but it echoes a powerful biblical principle: preparation matters.
In Matthew 25, Jesus tells the Parable of the Ten Virgins. It's a story about five wise and five foolish women waiting for the bridegroom to arrive. All ten had lamps. But only five brought extra oil. When the moment came, the foolish ones were scrambling. Their light ran out. And while they were out trying to get more, the door closed. The opportunity passed.
The message? Don’t just look the part. Stay filled. Stay prepared. Stay ready.
What Does “Oil in Your Lamp” Look Like Today?
The oil isn’t about performance — it’s about presence.
It’s about staying connected to God, day by day, not just when things get hard or when a “God emergency” hits. In today’s world, that looks like:
Starting your day with prayer, not panic
- Getting in the Word instead of just scrolling for inspiration
- Listening for God’s voice before reacting to noise
- Keeping your inner peace even when outer circumstances shift
Being filled with oil means you’re spiritually stocked, so you’re not caught slipping when life suddenly demands more than you have in the tank.
Why This Matters Now More Than Ever
We don’t always get a warning when the test comes. When heartbreak hits. When a door opens.
When God moves, the question is: Are you ready?
This isn’t about fear. It’s about spiritual readiness. It's about a lifestyle of staying aligned with God, so that when the moment comes, you’re not scrambling to “catch up” spiritually. You’ve already been in position. Your light is already on. Your heart is already listening.
A Word for the Culture
We live in a time where hustle is glamorized and spiritual laziness is normalized.
But the real ones — the ones who are deeply rooted — they shine the longest.
They’re the ones with oil left when everyone else burns out.
It’s not about doing more. It’s about being filled more often.
