Courage Is Required

Scripture never treats courage as exceptional. It is assumed.

Joshua is commanded to be strong and courageous before entering leadership under pressure. Courage is not framed as confidence, but as obedience. Fear is acknowledged. Retreat is not.

Jesus speaks plainly about the cost of following Him. Faith is never presented as safe. It is presented as faithful.

Courage Has a History

Christian courage has most often appeared when obedience placed believers at odds with political power.

In the first three centuries of the Roman Empire, Christians were not persecuted for private belief, but for public refusal. Declining to offer incense to the emperor was seen as political defiance. Many believers chose imprisonment, exile, or death rather than perform an act that violated conscience. Their courage was rooted in allegiance, not aggression.

Centuries later, similar courage surfaced during the abolitionist movement in Britain. William Wilberforce’s Christian faith shaped a decades-long campaign against the transatlantic slave trade. His work faced relentless opposition from economic and political interests, yet he persisted, driven by moral conviction rather than public approval.

In the United States, the Civil Rights Movement again revealed courage grounded in faith. Clergy and lay leaders alike faced threats, arrests, and violence for confronting segregation. Churches became organizing centers not because they were safe, but because faith demanded visibility. Courage was expressed through nonviolence, endurance, and moral clarity under pressure.

These moments share a common thread. Courage did not appear as dramatic defiance. It appeared as sustained obedience when retreat would have been easier.

Courage Sustains Justice

Courage is what keeps justice alive when pressure mounts. Without it, conviction becomes private and systems remain unchanged.

This reminds us that courage is not impulsive. It is practiced. It grows when identity and responsibility are already settled.

Wear the Message

Courage leaves a visible mark. The Courage Collection was created for those who understand that standing firm is part of faith, not apart from it.
